@NatGrayYes something to do with specific hayfever meds in my case - does something to increase risk of sudden heartattacks apparently. no idea what the ingredient or interaction was, but grapefruit and grapefruit juice called out specifically
@foone I tried https://marginalia-search.com/ recently and it's different. The result aren't as good as pre-Prabhakar google search but they are truly refreshing
@eclectech wot no "crushing the meatbags. exterminate. EXTERMINATE!" ?
that would have been an easy win
"When the Doctor loses control of the Tardis, he finds himself transported to #Scarfolk, a town forever timed-locked in the 1970s. There he faces dangerous foes including a telekinetic child-owl called Roy; an overhead projector possessed by a demon, and a group of tutting pensioners"
@anon_opin learn to talk about "exposure triangles" and drop in that you're still learning (that works for maybe the first 10 years or so, then you might need to change your camera and claim to be learning a new camera system instead). appear to take photos of odd things (like a champagne glass before the toast to the couple) to maintain the cover.
@anon_opin that's an easy real-life fix. get a cheap DSLR with as wide-glassed a lens as you can find. "take up" a new hobby of photography. always show up to events with it.
the moment you have a lens, you are behind it, and other photographers tend to leave you alone. it's a real-world invisibility cloak in social events, more so when cameraphones are a default option - it shows that you are "serious"
as a bonus you might find a new hobby in it, though that gets expensive.
Doctorow: "In automation theory… a centaur is a person who is assisted by a machine. … Riding a bicycle or driving a car makes you a centaur; so does using the mute button on your TV remote when an ad comes on. Wearing a hearing aid makes you a centaur, and so does using a calculator to multiply large numbers."
We had a slightly different word for all of that when I was in school: cyborg.
@anon_opin I thought we were using the doughnut as our benchmark?
no corner to hide in, etc etc
