When I attend conferences I can choose not to be photographed. I'd like an opportunity to opt out of being photographed at weddings and other family events. I don't mind attending. I just prefer it when my presence is ephemeral and not backed up on Google's or Meta's servers.
@anon_opin that's an easy real-life fix. get a cheap DSLR with as wide-glassed a lens as you can find. "take up" a new hobby of photography. always show up to events with it.
the moment you have a lens, you are behind it, and other photographers tend to leave you alone. it's a real-world invisibility cloak in social events, more so when cameraphones are a default option - it shows that you are "serious"
as a bonus you might find a new hobby in it, though that gets expensive.
