RIP the man who was the absolute incarnation of XKCD's "one random dude holding up the entire internet". You may never have heard of David Mills, but your entire goddamn world depends on what he did.

@35millimetre for all the obvious efficiencies of packaging, transportation, etc you're really unselling cuboid foodstuffs to me ;)

Austrian actress & inventor Hedy Lamarr died #OTD in 2000.

Most of her inventions were not widely used, but in the 1940s she wanted to create something that would help Allied forces fight the Nazis as part of the II WW. She worked with composer George Antheil to develop a new way to steer torpedoes. She had already discovered that radio-signals used to control torpedoes could be jammed by the Nazis, making them miss their targets, & wanted to come up with an unjammable alternative.

Tell us! Tell us! We've wondered for so long! Please, just...tell us WHY.

@35millimetre I'm now suspicious about the oat ingot. would that be an oaty weetabix? is oatabix a thing? does it have the structural concrete properties of weetabix too?

If engaging in booping activity it is preferable to get to comfy with the boopee first, even if it does mean getting a cold bum.

Pro tip: you can finish developing a user interface. It can be done. Complete. Whole. A program can be finished. It can stop. You can go home, you don't have to do this anymore. You can be whole. Just say no to UI refreshes.

@35millimetre personal sidenote - plant heather, or obtain access to it. honey from heather is a lovely strong-but-smooth taste, and the bees love heather too

@35millimetre start small.
step 1: find a small box.
step 2: find a bee
step 3: persuade the bee into the box. gently.
step 4: close box for 1 minute. this will feel longer to the bee, but if dark inside the box then the bee will choose to drop and walk rather than buzz around
step 5: release the bee

congratulations, you have successfully kept a bee!
next stage, scale up a few hundredfold in both box size, number of bees, and how many minutes.
obtaining a queen may assist here.
