@neotoy *except* gaming? my netbook only just doesn't play Unreal Tourney at a usable speed ;)
yeah, batteries are a consumable at a certain point.
RIP removable batteries :'(
@neotoy jeez, just realised the "new" laptop turns ten this year. i7-7500u with 32gb of ram has lasted well, despite a drop which broke part of the lid a year in.
apparently it won't run Win11, which is reassuring. should probably do a clean Ubuntu install this decade though
@Viss graph-burger?

@neotoy aww :)
I'm not supposed to talk about the ages of my toys any more, but one of my 2 current laptops is an Acer D250 netbook from <mumble mumble> years ago.
Still works fine as a remote terminal despite the low res screen.

Work in progress.
I'm slightly obsessed with turn-of-the-(19th)century theatre/pantomime/circus playbills at the moment, so I'm re-creating posters and ads for more recent productions (and products) in that style.
I just had a discussion with a friend, that the last years each felt exhausting like a complete decade.
Then I remembered this quote:
“His age was indeterminate. But in cynicism and general world weariness, which is a sort of carbon dating of the personality, he was about seven thousand years old.”
― Terry Pratchett
And we both felt as Terry has been looking at us when he wrote it.
@h2onolan I have recommended adding a powerdrill to a manual standy-sitty desk today though.
"with at least two memory positions too: one at the bottom and one just above the top where it strips the threads badly"
@h2onolan never forget the 20v coffee machine one of them made...
it sucked, but sooo slowly...
@gsuberland which could also lead to funtimes like ?@ for maybe-at
@gsuberland or standardise !@
@foone tbf it's mostly a unit used by the upper-class pheasant-shooting set and bank-robbers these days - we haven't had much call to update it.
by my limited understanding it's related to the olde brit way of defining smoothbore cannon as 12-pounder etc (though those were based on iron not lead balls) due to relatively poor accuracy of measurement back then
