@reverseics and truthfully, the exec staff on the ship pretty much treat Worf the same way as everyone else who pays for enterprise security.

Ignore all warnings, dismiss all advice to actually secure things until it’s too late and dramatic conflict is afoot.

“ok, i want you to take a look at this address. memorize it. you may need it when you’re on the ground, but you can’t take it with you - it’s where you’ll find our field agents who can assist you if you get into trouble.”

“but…but…this is an IPv6 address.”

“that’s right. like i say, memorize it. good luck, 007.”

@mattgrayyes it's a warning that not only can a swan break your arm, it now also has the means to cook you once it has done so.

I always forget about my complete archive of UK government source code until I receive panicked emails asking me to delete things from it.

This time it was password hashes. A *lot* of password hashes.

@jonty *weeps in "my little soda pop..." *

If you want your thing to last, and you can make your thing into a static website: You should.

Not because it's less infrastructure. Not because you love javascript. Not because self-hosting. Not because *offline*.

Because it can be archived and preserved for the future.

An exciting start to the day, rescuing a pigeon downed in our garden by (I think) a sparrowhawk. Took it to the vets, hopefully it'll make a full recovery.

@mattround while this does address the obvious reputational concerns, there are a fair few social media and website accounts which take over / steal retired/dead/dormant sites and accounts for this reason, so due dilligence and regular activity of the account/site is still needed, sadly

I really wish people understood the value of a solid long-term internet footprint when approaching strangers about possible business deals. It’s not just about confidence that someone’s who they say they are, it really helps if there’s a sense that there’s a reputation out there to protect

Tonight, take a look out the back window of your house. If your floodlight illuminates your neighbours' homes, there is a high probability they regard you as a twat.
