@jonty on the other hand someone appears to have made a coffee table from one unit, so part backup, part geeky furniture - as long as you enjoy orange.
115v will need sorting, so some form of fibre interfacing would be a good plan. maybe a cheap PC and 10gig fibre interface to your actual network.

@jonty from Delkins' spec:
"Flash storage in data recorders must also be able to withstand a 3,400G acceleration force for six and a half minutes and immersion in water at depths of 20,000 feet for 30 days."

what the actual f'k are you planning to do with your backups? orbit them?

'hmm, I need a copy of the prod database from tuesday. time to calculate the burn time needed to get it to land in the back yard I guess.'

Our paid work experience programme is getting another cohort and the job ad has just gone up!

It is mostly Web-based work, but we've also helped out on a mobile app, and another AR/VR app to help learn sign language.

Not sure how many #JuniorDevelopers near the North East we have on the Fediverse but, if you know anyone it'd be a fit for, please share it around.

Edit: There's no requirement for #NorthEastEngland, but it is hybrid in #Sunderland.

Have you had that "Upcoming price change for your Microsoft 365 subscription" email yet? They want to charge you an extra 50%ish for AI features, and they do *not* make it easy to find the way to turn it off. It took me minutes of searching - this is a particularly evil dark pattern.

"Switch plan" just lets you pick between annual and monthly billing. You want "Turn off recurring billing" and then "Current subscription without AI".

You're welcome. Please boost for others.

@gsuberland I have memories / scars of the time Maccies did hot chocolate in a dense styrofoam cup. it had a fairly unique flattish taste and melted the maccies straws in a most satisfying way

Lord, grant me the serenity to endure this bullshit. The strength to change the things I can, and some type of sonic weapon to destroy the things I cannot.

So the government decided to restrict who can get free flu vaccines on the NHS, and now we have a monster flu season overwhelming the NHS and hospitals declaring critical incidents all over the place.

I believe that's what's known as #FAFO

A very quick Myfanwy and Friend Special Edition for #NationalSnuggleAChickenDay

HT to @MaQuest and @art_history_animalia for the inspiration and source, responsibility as ever my own.

I feel like the snuggled chickens have a bit of attitude going on. There is definitely a backstory here.

Hi all. Given the recent announcement from Meta about AI personas and allowed behavior, I am moving threads.net back to a limit, and will likely move them to a block in the future on infosec.exchange. I can’t ignore the reality that the changes they’re making are specifically intended to permit attacks on many of the people that call this place home. I won’t rule out that they walk the changes back, which is why I’m not jumping to sever the nearly 4000 mutual follow relationships between people on threads and here.

The AI bubble is the new crypto bubble: you can tell because the same people are behind it, and they're doing the same thing with AI as they did with crypto - trying desperately to find a use case to cram it into, despite the yawning indifference and outright hostility of the users:
