I *really* dislike the use of "hallucination" as a way to describe the behavior of LLMs. Not because it anthropomorphizes them, but because hallucinations are disorders of sensory perception. They don't make you spew out plausibly-sounding bullshit.
If you need a familiar term, "confabulation" is probably a better pick.
@lcamtuf "salesmanship" is closer for me: overhears/half-reads something and makes up utter bollocks about it, but it reads well and is plausible enough to be believed
Day 14 of #photOctober2023 and the themes are blurred and street sign.
I took this as I walked up a hill on the narrow road on the St Abbs Nature Reserve. As I slowly approached the sign, and paused to take in the view and a deep breath, I thought to myself "rude!"
@jonty Pretty Large Online Platform was right there...
@eclectech it was still good, and I got to have beans on toast at the Pitlochry boating station while watching ducklings :)
- Hey, you know how salmon jump up waterfalls on their way to spawn? I managed to catch one on video.
- Nice. You haven't done anything stupid to this amazing, strong, determined, creature have you?
-
- I said...
- I heard what you said.
@35millimetre that looks roughly handluggage in size... do they travel well, and what are they like with cats? ;)
@eclectech Dunnett was a bit blowy but the whole week was downpouring rain. Originally intended to camp but ended up in a b&b in Inverness to dry out a little.
@eclectech ooh nice. Ardamurchan is on my list of Places To Go but my nearest chance so far was during an extra-stormy west coast week while I was on my motorbike. Managed to splosh up to Dunnett Head and John O'Groats instead though.
@stavvers big hugs, and raise a glass with her
Day 12 of #photOctober2023 and the themes are "on the road" and "panoramic".
This 20yr old panorama shows our old car on the road by Loch Hourn in the Scottish Highlands.
It was stitched together by hand. The camera attempted to assist but it needed a lot of help - so much work compared to just twirling around with your SmartPhone.
It was very satisfying though & I've always liked taking them on paths & roads.
We came from here.
We're going there.
For fuck's sake, just hire people, they're cheaper

Day 11 of #photOctober2023 and the themes are "from an altitude" and "inside out".
This is an inside room that's outside (part of a Nevis Range mountain bike course) at an altitude of around 650 metres, just up from the Aonoch Mor gondola station.
