Two other related points:
- It’s not actually that expensive to hire artists if you have a clear brief, are OK to deal with, pay instantly, etc
- Your project gets a boost, not only from not looking like AI slop, but from having a real named human involved (who will probably help promote it)

The last toast from the legend herself:
Valhalla really really reeked of beer, but Jennell seems happy
The other angels are tired of me saying “fight for the other users” while throwing my halo around
I leave it up to you to go to lindken.com and look up Jennell Jacques, now look at her job description, goddess of technology… and fuck cancer, fuck it in the ass

editing to add that boosts are okay and appreciated
ok so hi fedi
tl;dr im a 22 year old trans woman with no income or local social connections living in the dc-baltimore area being kicked out of my current awful living situation without anywhere else to go
i would like any advice at all about navigating probable homelessness in my area or just resources of where i can go or what i can do
basically i got hoarded out of my parents condo when i was young and went to stay with my grandparents but then they died and my aunt took over the house and hoarded herself out of it leaving me here because i had nowhere else to go and now shes put in a notice that shes leaving her current apartment and two weeks later actually decided to come and try to clean up the house before deeming it unliveable
im being kicked out not out of concern for my wellbeing living in this unliveable house for years but because she wants to put all the furniture from her apartment in my bedroom
my options are staying with my mom at the condo but the hoarding there was also severe and its taking a lot of work to have anything done (regardless of anything i plan on assisting her to at least get a bed there for me for the time being)
but my mom is unsupportive of my being trans so that will also definitely not be a permanent option
and the option ive been prepared the most for which is homelessness but im unsure how to navigate that too
i dont have any friends or family i could stay with
i dont have the ability to just get my own place to live due to my lack of income
so uhhhh basically
what do?
savings isnt the big problem but money towards hotel rooms and basic necessities is appreciated

Got a cup of tea, so time to settle in and read my newly arrived copy of @mattround’s very excellent magazine of typing in programs like the 1980s, DOCTYPE.
I am inordinately proud to have been a part of this. Look, there are pyramids on the cover which are from the thing I did!
You can still buy a copy at https://vole.wtf/doctype

Thousands of rare American songs spanning jazz, blues and gospel — some more than a century old — are now available for the public to enjoy online.
That’s thanks to a collaboration between UC Santa Barbara and the nonprofit Dust-to-Digital Foundation , which digitized the recordings from rare and aging music collections.

I made an ascii art moon phase tracker that runs whenever I open a new terminal window, and it makes me aware of the passage of time more than any calendar. https://github.com/asweigart/ascii-moon-phase-rust and https://github.com/asweigart/ascii-moon-phase-python
@mcnado A reminder to folk that Flu is even more responsive to mask wearing that Covid. We literally wiped out a strain of Flu simply because some portion of the population was wearing mostly crappy masks, social distancing, etc. Get your flu shot, obviously, but in the absence of a better matched one, wear a fucking mask.
Steam Hardware Thoughts
I know a lot of folks have been going on about it, but Steam's latest hardware announcement has been utterly insane for the day and age in which we live.
Consider that they didn't hype it up with a launch event. They didn't sell a bunch of hype and buzzwords. All they did was release a ~6 minute video that effectively described the hardware and what it would provide, and had a webpage with *actual specs on it*.
They invited a bunch of tech reporters/YouTubers to their HQ, but they let them talk to *engineers*, not marketing people. The discussions focused on real capabilities of the hardware, and actual demonstrations. No vapor and promises. Not glitz and glam.
They made it clear this is all SteamOS driven, and that they have a focus of getting *existing x86 Windows software* running not only on Linux, but on ARM and in VR!!
They aren't pitching a closed ecosystem. They said, outright, "This is your hardware, you can do whatever you want with it".
THEY DIDN'T MENTION AI ONCE.
And they're _already_ making a bigger splash than any competitor ever did, even though those competitors have gobs more money they've thrown at this stuff, and tremendously more staff.
It's flabbergasting. I hope they make enough of an impact with all this that people sit up and take notice.
