Here #curl is again showing the way in Open Source, this time with vulnerability management. Per their well-known/security.txt:

#TIL that if you have a preferred low-level build tool to use with cmake (e.g. I like ninja in preference to make), you can set CMAKE_GENERATOR in the environment to make it the default for you.

How have I been using cmake for this many years and not found that out?

As soon as I made the step from "it's really annoying having to say -G Ninja every time" to "I wish there was a way I could change the default, like maybe an environment variable", it took me 2 minutes to check and find out there already was one. But somehow it's taken me ten years to make that leap of thought. I feel silly!

But I suppose at least I didn't start trying to write a patch _adding_ one, and find the existing one in the code location I was modifying. That would have been more embarrassing.

curl, which is one of the most popular CLI/API tools for network requests and data transfer on Linux/Unix, is to discontinue its HackerOne bug bounty program due to "too strong incentives to find and make up 'problems' in bad faith that cause overload and abuse".

The authors simply cannot keep up with LLM-generated fake security reports created to collect money using bots. So, it now shuts down at the end of January 2026. This is why we can't have good things
