Meanings of the smoke for the upcoming papal conclave:

Black smoke means they're burning oil, which could be a sign of piston ring or valve stem seal wear

White smoke means they're burning coolant and the papal head gasket has blown

Yesterday, I learned that camel-casing your hashtags, i.e. every word starts with a capital letter but no spaces, is not just personal preference of some but essential to those using screen-readers. Makes sense.

So, all of my hashtags are now and will be in camel case. You've convinced me. Convincing me with inclusion is rather easy.

I may have done a silly thing getting a 3d printer, but building, fettling it and testing it with the lad (9yo) made for a great weekend.
he now Has Plans.
they are substantially more ambitious than mine, and yet still fit inside the 22x22x25cm print area somehow.
he also asked whether we can print in metals or just plastics right now.
uh oh...

No way can I afford to have a bid, but I can boost for visibility.

And as I always say with your dad's work.

The first time I picked up one of his books, I thought I was going to be reading an amusing fantasy book recommended by a friend when I was just a teenager.

I was wrong.

What I got, every single time... was a lesson in humanity, compassion, equality and everything else that has ever been used as a weapon by bigots, the hateful people and of course political power.... Plus... I also got an hilarious fantasy novel.

It helped shape my beliefs as a young man and still does today as a middle aged one.

Every time I look at those books on the shelf, every time I open one. I am grateful for their existence and the lessons they've taught me.

His words are used in my everyday life... from the greatest bad jokes ever written (a tie between 'The Wizard Denephew Boot' & 'The guy works down the chip shop they swear is Elfish')... to the Vimes theory on socio-economic unfairness. I use his words as examples to teach others.

Good luck with the auction... I hope it breaks records.

THE BIGGEST NEWS! Rob and I are offering up a hand-signed hardback, first edition/first printing copy of Monstrous Regiment straight from the Pratchett archives. Those who know the story will know why it’s a pertinent one for this cause.

UK pol, transphobia, hopefully useful info

It is also *very* illegal to share photos/film intending to cause alarm, distress or humiliation. Be aware that the law is on your side very clearly should you experience transphobic sexual harassment.

UK trans people, it's time to familiarise yourself with the law on upskirting, because the upshot is, it is *very* illegal, the law is not written with regards to gender, not degined as specifically sexual, and sharing photos is as very illegal as taking them.

Probably the best #anagram I will ever personally discover.

I've been waiting for a good moment this year to post it. I thought in 2025 someone would be bound to use this phrase in public discourse. But I haven't seen a case of it yet, so I'll just post this anyway.

Drinking coffee, listening to music, putting together the photo collection. A fine Saturday morning. Still not getting distracted messing about with the 360 photos *ahem*

(this is one of the few photos I was tempted to leave me in, as in the original I am centre stage, arm stretched up with the camera, looking up as if I am casting a spell on the world 😁 )

This is taken from the wooden bridge over Dunmore Loch in Faskally Woods, near Pitlochry.

hey just FYI: if someone messages you on discord asking you to test a game they're making for a class by downloading a running an exe, and this isn't completely 100% expected based on having seen them in real life and they said "I'm making a game for class and I'd like you to test it" to your face, their account has been hacked and it's a scam.
