As always fascist aren't the brightest - taking a plot-device from a narrative that the creators are on record as saying is about transitioning, as as symbol of redemption for toxic masculinity.

Yesterday, as I sat here, using a laptop running on Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to connect, by means of a secure tunnel formed by Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to multiple servers, all running Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to apply patches prepared urgently by volunteers to resolve security vulnerabilities, I felt *incredibly* grateful for every single one of those volunteers, who makes the fact that I could do *any* of this possible.

Thank you, genuinely.

why do people call LLM training on public website data “AI Copyright Infringement” when “six finger discount” is right there

evilstevie boosted

Unless you live under a stone, everybody will have heard about PHP today.

Now, please realize that the vast majority of Open Source Software, like PHP, and including PHP, is largely maintained by **unpaid volunteers**.

If you agree that this is inconceivably irresponsible: let this be your call to action and FUND THE OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS YOUR ORGANIZATION RELIES ON.

Saying "Thanks" once in a while is not enough and does not make open source sustainable.

keep this post in your back pocket for the next time some AI booster tells you that you don’t understand the technology

this is facebook’s “cutting edge agentic AI” muse, and if you check the context on the linked post you’ll see that they’ve tied up a ton of their company’s valuation in its success

because muse is fully fucked architecturally and is a fractal of unfixable security issues, it leaks much more information about its internal state than chatgpt or claude do. the latter two give the user a falsified version of the model’s internal “thinking” string; muse stores and leaks it as part of a recursive self-improvement system that doesn’t work at all

the linked post is a bunch of leaked internal state showing how a “cutting-edge agentic LLM” bypasses automated Turing tests: pure brute force and failures disguised as success. there’s nothing impressive here. this is how LLMs appear to solve problems, illustrated. neuromatch.social/@jonny/11748

Reverse Imposter Syndrom:

Am I even incompetent enough to work in IT security?

OpenAI: "For organizations using PHP, the priority now is applying the fixes. We’re sharing a PHP version checker as a Codex skill [...]"

What it actually does:
"The checker only evaluates versions exposed in HTTP response headers or by php -v. It reads X-Powered-By and Server [...]"

Why would anyone need a skill for that instead of just a one liner with curl? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

your feedback is important to us, please place your microphone as close to your speaker as possible

@ozzelot @janamarie yeah, how did they get that on the outside of the window?

When people claim that it’s no longer sustainable to write code by hand, they’re not entirely wrong, but only in the same way that it’s no longer sustainable to sleep in a bed once someone has taken a shit in it.

this is a joke please don't take it too seriously

listen, if:

- sam altman can say that he "will build a super smart AI and then ask it about how to make a return for investors"
- linus torvalds can use genAI to write a script bc apparently python is too hard for him
- and emudhra can use the number 4 as private key

then you can, in fact, achieve your dreams. you are forbidden from having imposter syndrome as of today.
