Welp, some arsewipe bots are hammering my web server so I've just shut it down. Think I'll leave it off for a while until the bots forget.
Can't be bothered to fix it because that requires learning 20 years or os of new skills and I'm about to go on vacation and it's a semi-abandoned hobby project at this point, no longer load-bearing marketing activity since Google gave up on web search.
(Yes, I am sulking.)
@cstross Meta AI bots used c100GB of bandwidth on my site over three days the other week, wee shits.
All the effort I've gone to over the years to make pictures and animations small and efficient and it just craps all over it in. No idea how it got that number so high. Can download the entire site in about 2GB.

@eclectech @cstross Yeah, basically it's forcing everyone to use the big CDNs to minimise problems, such a pain (Meta's bots seem to be the worst at the moment, absolutely hammered this Mastodon instance)
@mattround @cstross It's just rubbish, only made worse by the fact they're even bad at being rubbish.
I'd not really thought it through to make the connection that it's impacting on my experience as a site visitor as well... so that's why I am constantly being asked to prove I'm human (lost count of the numbers of websites I nope out of because I can't be bothered).
