There's a lot of talk in fedi about giving advice when it's not asked for

I think this is a golden rule situation. I think people give what they would like to receive, and don't understand that other people might want to receive something different

People who like receiving unsolicited advice, are generously giving the same thing to others

And people who don't like receiving it, are baffled by why someone would do something so unkind

At least among folks I know, the latter are much more vocal

There doesn't seem to be much recognition that people might differ in this area

I'm wondering what the percentages actually are

When you post your frustration about a problem you are having, but you don't explicitly ask for suggestions...

@NilaJones when venting, I state "just venting, working on it still"
when seeking assistance/advice/information, I state "has anyone seen/done/tried X, and how does Y work?" kind of stuff.
if I've trodden a path before I'm probably of at least some help and like to be useful, otherwise I'm spectator-mode
