The answer to The Data Centre Problem in both UK & US is just sensible regulation. Have strict noise, pollution & water usage limits, make them pay for infrastructure improvements & renewable energy sources, fine the hell out of them for every breach or shut them down

I wouldn’t love to have a big data centre near here, but I’d tolerate a properly planned & regulated one, in the same way I put up with HS2 work going on all around

@mattround (we had a medium sized datacentre for quite a long while by the A46, but it was hella expensive to run/maintain and wasn't anywhere near Big Datacentre in scale terms or power requirements. still quite loud locally, still hyper-local annoyances vs jobs balances to make)
