I tried to find the XHTML Transitional one but was too lazy to dig very far.
I absolutely had the W3C XHTML Transitional Valid, W3C CSS Valid, and "written in notepad" badges on my site back in the 2000s. complete with frames (oh yeah, actual frames, no iframe here) and tables for layout.
and absolutely used transparent images as spacer elements.
