WHY DOES MY PHONE HAVE 8 GIGS OF RAM
WHY WILL MY NEXT ONE HAVE MORE
THIS MAKES NO SENSE

@ozzelot I don't know how to break this to you, but your phone... it's no longer your phone.

a while back it was decided that microcode running on dedicated chips was no way to make phones, and now there's a small subsystem of what you think is your phone which is still just those parts.
Like a vestigal organ, it is retained for now.

the actual device you think of as your phone is now a fully fledged computer, even down to virtualisation layers.
the tiny computers, they yearn for the RAM
